Surveillance Studies Network Global Scholar Award

The Surveillance Studies Network (SSN) will award up to three bursaries of £500 (500 GBP) each for attendees of the Surveillance Studies Summer Seminar (SSSS) from less developed or developing countries, who are in need of financial assistance. The award will first be applied to SSSS fees and any balance will be applied to travel/accomodation expenses.  

Rules

1. To be eligible for the SSN Global Scholar Award, applicants must:

  • be accepted to attend the SSSS in order to claim award;
  • be a citizen of a less developed or developing country;
  • be able to demonstrate their financial need;
  • electronically submit a full CV and letter of application in MS Word-readable format to: David Murakami Wood and Kirstie Ball by 11 February 2011 (SSSS application due date).

2. Adjudication

  • adjudication will be carried out by a sub-committee of 3 members of the SSN Board appointed for this purpose by Board;
  • the judges will meet annually in person or online, and the minutes of their meeting will be available to all members of the SSN, and subject to approval at the following Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the SSN;
  • the judges will make their decision within two weeks of applications closing;
  • the judges will award up to three awards;
  • the judges’ decision will be final;
  • the judges will not enter into any personal correspondence with unsuccessful applicants about the award.

3. Award Value and Benefits

  • the award value shall be £500 (500 GBP), to be first be applied to SSSS fees and any balance applied to travel/accomodation expenses.;
  • the awardees shall also be given a free membership of the SSN;
  • the awardees shall be entitled to call themselves ‘Surveillance Studies Network Global Scholar’ for the year in which they are awarded.
